HLTAID009 - Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

About this course 

Students completing this course will gain the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.


This unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide CPR in various situations, including community and workplace settings.

Course duration (Standard)

Face to Face minimum duration is 2 hours

HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

During the training session, participants will complete the following tasks:  

  •  Follow the DRSABCD protocol in accordance with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.

  • Perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor. This included 5 cycles of compressions and ventilations.

  • Perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface. Again, this involved 5 cycles of compressions and ventilations.

  • Respond appropriately in the event of regurgitation or vomiting.

  • Manage an unconscious breathing casualty.

  • Follow the procedure for single rescuer CPR, including the rotation of operators with minimal interruptions to compressions.

  • Follow the prompts provided by an automated external defibrillator (AED).

  • Additionally, participants will also be assessed on their response to at least one simulated first aid scenario. This will include demonstrating safe manual handling techniques and providing an accurate verbal or written report of the incident.
